How To Make Your Home Storm Resistant

by Rosemary Allison 09/15/2019

Every season comes with a different set of challenges.

For summer, the house must be heat resistant, and it must be clean enough to allow the wind to come in or the owner must have the place ready with air conditioning units and fans.

For winter, the house must be ready with some heat and make sure that there us warmth for the people living there.

For spring and autumn, the house must be ready for some spring cleaning and prepare the home for the coming seasons.

Storm season, or the arrival of a hurricane or tornado, is a little different.

The following are some of the best ways to make a house storm-resistant:

The first thing you need to do is to protect your doors and windows at all costs. You need to invest in high quality and impact resistant windows that could withstand the test of strong winds and high impact debris.

It is amazing how this single investment could make any home value skyrocket especially when the property is in a high storm probability area.

Other than installing those high-quality windows, you may also need to install shutters that can easily be lowered from inside in the event of a storm. There are now shutters you can easily install and incorporate into your exterior design, so this one should be reasonably easy to find.

Second, whenever there is an announcement that a storm is coming, remove all patio furniture, trampolines, or anything that can easily get blown away by strong winds. In case you are into landscaping, the best way to protect the plants and landscape is to install a protective roof or a storm-proof greenhouse effect in the backyard. This one is especially good for areas that face hurricanes more than three times a year.

Finally, a small investment to make is the cleaning and maintenance of gutters and downspouts. This step is relatively easy to do, and it protects your protect from being damaged.

Now that you have made your house storm-resistant, you need to put your mind at ease and make sure you are ready for anything. A storm can be unpredictable, but at least you get prepared to protect your property value.
